Caverns

The creation of underground space is the most favorable method to improve the environmental quality
and support sustainable development; however it should be properly planned by specialists with substantial experience
of non-renewable resources. ESCO’s engineers have considerable experience having participated
in diverse underground space development projects
such as an underground wine storage cavern,
silo type nuclear waste repository cavern, etc.

 

Caverns

The project layout shown above is the nuclear waste repository cavern for low and medium level wastes. It consists of six silos,
each 50m deep and 27m in diameter constructed successfully with the design provided by ESCO. Challenging technical issues were
the selection of adequate excavation methods and support systems and their verifications. In particular, not all silos were aligned
within similar ground conditions even though they were located at relatively close spacing.
